Giving for the Face of Allah

This verse directs giving toward a clear purpose: seeking the Face of Allah.

وَمَا تُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ ٱللَّهِۚ

And you do not spend except seeking the countenance of Allah.

Quran, Al-Baqara 2:272

In this verse, Allah reminds the Prophet ﷹ that people's guidance does not depend on him, but on Allah. It also says that whatever good believers spend is for themselves. Their spending is described by the purpose named in the text: seeking the Face of Allah.
