Forgive and Repair

This verse invites us to go beyond equal retaliation by a forgiveness that repairs.

فَمَنۡ عَفَا وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَجۡرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ

But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah.

Quran, Ash-Shura 42:40

The verse first acknowledges the right to a proportionate response to an offense. Then it highlights a higher path: to pardon and to repair. The word 'repair' (aslaha) links forgiveness to a positive action, such as restoring the relationship or correcting the wrong.

In our daily lives, this can mean, after a conflict, not only letting go of resentment but also taking a concrete step to rebuild the bond. This path is entrusted to Allah, who knows its worth.

Today, if someone has hurt you, take a step toward reconciliation: send a soothing message or propose a meeting to repair the bond.
