بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ
This verse links the worship of Allah to kindness towards parents.
۞وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلۡوَٰلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَٰنًاۚ إِمَّا يَبۡلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلۡكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوۡ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفّٖ وَلَا تَنۡهَرۡهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوۡلٗا كَرِيمٗا
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
Quran, Al-Isra 17:23
This verse combines two commands: to worship Allah alone and to be good to one's parents. It emphasizes the way we speak to them, especially when they grow old. Even a word of impatience like "uff" is forbidden. The believer must address them with noble and respectful words. In our daily lives, we can apply this by choosing our words carefully, even when tired or in a hurry. A gentle and respectful word is an act of kindness that honors our parents.
Today, when you speak to your parents, make sure to use respectful and kind words, even if you are in a hurry or upset.
