الصَّبْرُ
This verse invites us to see patience as a superior good, even when retaliation is permitted.
وَلَئِن صَبَرۡتُمۡ لَهُوَ خَيۡرٞ لِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.
Quran, An-Nahl 16:126
The verse acknowledges the right to respond proportionately to injustice. But it immediately adds that patience is better for those who practice it. It is not a prohibition, but a guidance toward a higher virtue. In daily life, when faced with a hurtful remark or a minor injustice, we can choose to respond in kind or to exercise restraint. The verse encourages us to choose patience because it explicitly presents patience as better for those who endure.
Today, when faced with an irritating situation, take a deep breath and choose to respond calmly rather than retorting in kind.
