عَفْو
Allah forgives despite the gravity of the sin, so that people may be grateful.
ثُمَّ عَفَوۡنَا عَنكُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَٰلِكَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ
Then We forgave you after that, so that you might be grateful.
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:52
In this verse, Allah reminds the Children of Israel that after they worshipped the calf, they received His forgiveness. This forgiveness is a great blessing, for the sin was serious. Allah does not merely forgive; He explains that this forgiveness aims to awaken their gratitude. Today, we can reflect on the fact that Allah forgives our mistakes, even the heaviest ones. This forgiveness is an invitation to thank Him and return to Him with humility.
Take a moment to thank Allah for a forgiveness you have received, by saying: 'Alhamdulillah'.
