تَقْوَى
This verse invites us to prefer faith and piety over any fleeting gain.
وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ ءَامَنُواْ وَٱتَّقَوۡاْ لَمَثُوبَةٞ مِّنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٞۚ لَّوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ
And if they had believed and feared Allah, then the reward from Allah would have been [far] better, if they only knew.
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:103
In the previous verse, some people chose to learn magic, an illusory gain that deprives them of any share in the Hereafter. This verse contrasts that choice with faith and piety: whoever believes and fears Allah receives from Him a far better reward. Piety (taqwā) means living with awareness of Allah, avoiding what He has forbidden. It is not just a feeling but a concrete orientation for one's whole life.
Today, identify a small temptation or easy gain that might distance you from Allah, and deliberately choose to abstain from it out of piety.
