تَوَّاب
In this supplication, Abraham and Ishmael ask Allah to make them submissive and to accept their repentance.
وَتُبۡ عَلَيۡنَآۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
“…and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.”
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:128
This verse is part of a prayer by Abraham and Ishmael during the building of the Kaaba. They ask Allah to make them submissive and to make from their descendants a Muslim nation. Then they ask Him to show them their rites and to accept their repentance. Allah is described as the One who accepts repentance and is Merciful. We too can turn to Allah with humility. We ask Him to help us be submissive to Him and to accept our returns to Him. This trust in His mercy encourages us to come back to Him after our mistakes.
Today, in your prayer, sincerely ask Allah: “O Lord, make me submissive to You and accept my repentance.”
