أُمَّةً وَسَطًا
This verse teaches us that Allah has made us a balanced community.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَٰكُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَسَطٗا لِّتَكُونُواْ شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ
And thus We have made you a balanced community, so that you may be witnesses over mankind.
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:143
Verse 2:143 addresses the believers. It says that Allah has made them a just and balanced community. This position gives them a role: to be witnesses for humanity. The context speaks of the change of prayer direction. This change made it possible to distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn back. Being a balanced community means avoiding extremes. In our decisions, words, and judgments, we are called to moderation and justice. This does not mean being perfect, but seeking balance in all things.
Today, before judging a situation, take a minute to seek a balanced and fair perspective.
