إِنَّا لِلَّهِ
This Qalima explores the phrase believers say when faced with hardship.
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٰجِعُونَ
“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:156
In the previous verse, Allah announces that He tests people with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives, and fruits. He gives good tidings to the patient. The central verse describes these patient ones: when disaster strikes them, they say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” This phrase acknowledges that everything belongs to Allah and that our final return is to Him. In daily life, when facing difficulty, this phrase reminds us that we are not alone. It refocuses our hearts on Allah and helps us accept what happens with trust.
Today, as soon as a minor annoyance occurs, say inwardly: “Innā lillāh wa innā ilayhi rāji‘ūn.”
