تَقْوَى
This verse teaches us not to use our oaths as an excuse to avoid doing good.
أَن تَبَرُّواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ وَتُصۡلِحُواْ بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ
to be righteous, to fear Allah, and to make peace among people
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:224
The verse forbids using an oath by Allah as an excuse to avoid doing good deeds, being pious, or reconciling people. It reminds us that Allah hears all and knows all, including our intentions. In daily life, we might say, 'I swear I won't do that' to avoid a beneficial action. This verse invites us not to let an oath prevent us from doing good. If we realize an action is good, we should do it, even if we have sworn otherwise.
Today, if you have made an oath that prevents you from doing a good deed, reflect and do that deed, for piety is more important than maintaining an oath.
