مَنّ
This verse teaches us how to preserve the value of our gifts.
لَا يُتۡبِعُونَ مَآ أَنفَقُواْ مَنّٗا وَلَآ أَذٗى
who do not follow their spending with reminders or injury
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:262
In this verse, Allah describes those who spend in His way without following their gifts with reminders (mann) or injury (adha). They receive their reward from their Lord, with no fear or grief. The previous verse shows that Allah multiplies the reward for those who give, and the next one states that kind speech is better than charity followed by injury. Thus, for our generosity to remain pure, we must avoid reminding others of our gifts or hurting them. This preserves the sincerity of our action and our relationships.
Today, give something (time, money, a smile) without telling anyone, and if someone thanks you, simply reply: 'You're welcome.'
