A Garden That Doubles Its Fruits

This verse compares sincere spending to a fertile garden on a hill.

يُنفِقُونَ أَمۡوَٰلَهُمُ ٱبۡتِغَآءَ مَرۡضَاتِ ٱللَّهِ وَتَثۡبِيتٗا مِّنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡ

Those who spend their wealth seeking Allah's approval and strengthening their hearts...

Quran, Al-Baqara 2:265

Verse 265 of Surah Al-Baqarah describes those who give while seeking Allah's pleasure and affirming their hearts. Their example is a garden on high ground: if heavy rain falls, it yields double fruit; otherwise, a light drizzle is enough. Thus, their generosity always bears fruit, regardless of amount.

This verse follows a warning against showing off (2:264) and precedes the image of a garden destroyed by fire (2:266). It shows that sincerity protects and makes good deeds flourish. Today, we can give without seeking to be seen, entrusting our intention to Allah.
