ميسرة
This verse calls for leniency toward a debtor in hardship.
وَإِن كَانَ ذُو عُسۡرَةٖ فَنَظِرَةٌ إِلَىٰ مَيۡسَرَةٖۚ وَأَن تَصَدَّقُواْ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ
If someone is in hardship, then let there be postponement until a time of ease. But if you give charity by remitting the debt, it is better for you, if you only knew.
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:280
The verse instructs to grant a delay to a debtor who cannot pay. It also suggests that forgiving the debt entirely as charity is better. This kindness is presented as a good for the creditor. In daily life, when facing a debtor, one can choose to wait or to cancel the debt. These actions ease the burden of others and reflect sincere generosity.
Today, if someone owes you money and is in difficulty, offer them extra time or, if possible, forgive part or all of the debt.
