أمانة
This verse teaches us two essential duties of responsibility.
فَلۡيُؤَدِّ ٱلَّذِي ٱؤۡتُمِنَ أَمَٰنَتَهُۥ وَلۡيَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُۥۗ وَلَا تَكۡتُمُواْ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَۚ
Let him who is entrusted discharge his trust, let him fear Allah his Lord, and do not conceal testimony.
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:283
In the context of a debt or deposit, Allah asks the one who received a trust to return it faithfully. He associates this return with the fear of Allah, for He alone sees everything. The verse also forbids concealing testimony: concealing it makes the heart sinful. In daily life, this means being trustworthy in our commitments, even the smallest, and daring to tell the truth when we have witnessed something. These simple acts build an honest society.
Today, return an object, information, or promise you received in trust, without omitting anything.
