قُنُوت
This verse addressed to Mary teaches us complete devotion to Allah.
ٱقۡنُتِي لِرَبِّكِ وَٱسۡجُدِي وَٱرۡكَعِي مَعَ ٱلرَّـٰكِعِينَ
Be devoutly obedient to your Lord, prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer].
Quran, Al-Imran 3:43
In this verse, Allah asks Mary to be obedient, to prostrate, and to bow with those who pray. He thus combines devotion of the heart with acts of prayer. The context shows that Allah chose and purified her, and this instruction is part of her election. For us, this word reminds us that prayer is a complete act of devotion. It unites humility of the body and submission of the heart. We can take inspiration from Mary by seeking to pray with presence and sincerity.
Today, perform a prayer (or part of it) while focusing on the meaning of the prostration and bowing movements.
