This verse invites the People of the Book to agree on a common word.
Come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah.
Quran, Al-Imran 3:64
Allah asks the Prophet ﷺ to propose to the People of the Book a common ground: to worship only Allah, to associate nothing with Him, and not to take each other as lords besides Allah. This word is simple and unites believers. In our daily lives, we can apply this by ensuring that our worship and obedience are reserved for Allah alone, and by avoiding blindly following people or habits that contradict His teaching.
Today, reflect on one area where you could better obey only Allah, and make a concrete decision to implement it.
