What struck you was by Allah's permission

This verse reminds us that what struck the believers on the day the two armies met was by Allah's permission.

وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡجَمۡعَانِ فَبِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

And what struck you on the day the two armies met was by permission of Allah that He might make evident the [true] believers.

Quran, Al-Imran 3:166

Verse 3:166 addresses the believers after the battle of Uhud. It reminds them that what struck them that day was not random but by Allah's permission. The purpose is clear: to distinguish the true believers. The next verse adds that He also distinguishes the hypocrites.

In our lives, we may face trials. This verse invites us to see them as an opportunity to show our faith. When facing a difficulty, we can ask ourselves: how would a sincere believer react?

Today, when facing a difficulty, remind yourself that it happens by Allah's permission and choose a reaction that shows your trust in Him.
