Shirk, a grave sin, but hope for forgiveness

This verse teaches us the gravity of shirk and the mercy of Allah.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغۡفِرُ أَن يُشۡرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغۡفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَن يُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰٓ إِثۡمًا عَظِيمًا

Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.

Quran, An-Nisa 4:48

This verse states that Allah does not forgive shirk, that is, associating others with Him in worship. However, He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. This shows both the gravity of shirk and the hope in divine mercy for other sins.

In our daily lives, we must ensure our worship is pure and not place anything on the same level as Allah. This calls us to vigilance and humility, while trusting in His forgiveness.

Today, reflect on a moment when you acted for show or to please others, and ask Allah's forgiveness while worshipping Him sincerely.
