تَحِيَّة
This verse teaches us how to respond to a greeting.
وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُم بِتَحِيَّةٖ فَحَيُّواْ بِأَحۡسَنَ مِنۡهَآ أَوۡ رُدُّوهَآۗ
When you are greeted with a greeting, greet with one better than it or return it.
Quran, An-Nisa 4:86
In this verse, Allah asks us to respond to any greeting with a better one, or at least an equal one. It is not just about politeness, but an act that matters to Allah, who takes account of everything. In daily life, we often receive greetings: a hello, a smile, a message. This verse invites us not to leave these attentions unanswered, and to try to surpass them in kindness.
Today, respond to every greeting with a warmer phrase, for example by adding a kind word or a wish of peace.
