Sin weighs only on oneself

This verse reminds us that every sin committed is a burden we carry ourselves.

وَمَن يَكۡسِبۡ إِثۡمٗا فَإِنَّمَا يَكۡسِبُهُۥ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ

Whoever commits a sin only earns it against himself.

Quran, An-Nisa 4:111

Verse 4:111 states that the one who commits a sin bears sole responsibility for it. It does not say that sin does not affect others, but that it weighs on its author. The following verse (4:112) shows that some sins, like accusing an innocent person, harm others. Here, the emphasis is on personal responsibility.

In our lives, it is tempting to blame others or circumstances. This verse invites us to acknowledge our mistakes and accept their consequences, without making excuses.

Today, if you make a mistake, acknowledge it inwardly and say to yourself: 'It is my responsibility', then ask Allah for forgiveness.
