بُهْتَان
This verse warns us against a grave injustice: accusing an innocent person.
فَقَدِ ٱحۡتَمَلَ بُهۡتَٰنٗا وَإِثۡمٗا مُّبِينٗا
He has taken upon himself a slander and manifest sin.
Quran, An-Nisa 4:112
Verse 112 of Surah An-Nisa speaks of one who commits an offense or sin, then blames an innocent person for it. This behavior is called buhtān, a false accusation. The verse says that such a person bears a slander and a manifest sin. The previous verse reminds us that each person is responsible for their own deeds: we cannot shift our sin onto others. In our daily lives, it can be tempting to shift blame to avoid consequences. But this harms the innocent and burdens us with sin. Justice begins with owning our mistakes.
Today, if you make a mistake, admit it honestly, even if it is difficult. Do not blame anyone else.
