عِزَّة
This verse teaches us to preserve our dignity by distancing ourselves from mockery of religion.
فَلَا تَقۡعُدُواْ مَعَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَخُوضُواْ فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيۡرِهِۦٓ إِنَّكُمۡ إِذٗا مِّثۡلُهُمۡ
Do not sit with them until they engage in another conversation; otherwise, you would be like them.
Quran, An-Nisa 4:140
The previous verse asks: do they seek honor with the disbelievers? Honor belongs entirely to Allah. Here, the central verse gives a practical instruction: when you hear Allah's verses being denied and ridiculed, do not remain seated with those who do so, until they talk about something else. Otherwise, you would be like them. This instruction protects us from associating with words that contradict our faith. In daily life, it means choosing not to participate in conversations where religion is mocked, even by mere presence.
Today, if you hear mockery of religion, politely leave or change the subject.
