رِيَاء
This verse warns us against showing off in prayer.
يُرَآءُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ
they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people
Quran, An-Nisa 4:142
The verse describes the hypocrites who, when they stand for prayer, do so lazily and to be seen by people. They remember Allah only a little. This behavior is opposed to sincerity, which is to worship Allah solely for Him. In our lives, we may sometimes seek the approval of others in our acts of worship. Prayer is a special moment with Allah, away from the eyes of people. We must ensure that our heart is present and our intention is pure.
Today, before each prayer, remind yourself that you pray for Allah alone, and focus on the meaning of the words.
