جَهْر
This verse invites us to weigh our words, especially in public.
لَّا يُحِبُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡجَهۡرَ بِٱلسُّوٓءِ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ إِلَّا مَن ظُلِمَ
Allah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged.
Quran, An-Nisa 4:148
The verse combines two ideas: on one hand, Allah does not like open evil speech; on the other, He makes an exception for the one who has been wronged. The immediate context reminds us that Allah hears all and knows all, and that forgiveness remains a high value. In our daily lives, we may be tempted to criticize someone publicly. This verse invites us to restraint, even when we are right. If we suffer an injustice, we can seek a just solution, but without being carried away by hurtful words.
Today, before saying something negative about someone, ask yourself if it is necessary and just; if not, remain silent.
