قِسْط
This verse teaches us to judge with fairness, even towards those who are insincere.
وَإِنۡ حَكَمۡتَ فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَهُم بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۚ
And if you judge, judge between them with justice.
Quran, Al-Ma'ida 5:42
The verse addresses the Prophet ﷺ in a context where people come to him for judgments, even though they are insincere. He is told: if you judge, judge with fairness (qisṭ). Allah loves those who act justly. In our daily lives, we may encounter dishonest or hypocritical people. Yet, we must remain fair in our decisions, whether in a dispute, a sharing, or an evaluation. Fairness does not depend on the other's sincerity.
Today, if you have to make a decision involving another person, take a moment to check that you are fair, even if that person has not been sincere with you.
