اعْتِدَاء
This verse invites us to respect Allah's limits.
لَا تُحَرِّمُواْ طَيِّبَٰتِ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ وَلَا تَعۡتَدُوٓاْۚ
Do not prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress.
Quran, Al-Ma'ida 5:87
Allah addresses the believers. He asks them not to forbid what He has made lawful. He also asks them not to transgress. These two commands are linked: moderation is a form of self-control. In our daily lives, we may sometimes be too hard on ourselves or, on the contrary, go beyond limits. This verse reminds us of balance: accept Allah's blessings with gratitude and stay within the framework He has set.
Today, identify a lawful thing you were depriving yourself of due to excessive strictness, and thank Allah by enjoying it in moderation.
