إِسْرَاف
This verse teaches us to enjoy Allah's blessings without falling into excess.
وَكُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ وَلَا تُسۡرِفُوٓاْۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ
"Eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess."
Quran, Al-A'raf 7:31
In this verse, Allah addresses all of humanity. He reminds us to dress properly for prayer, then to eat and drink. But He adds a clear limit: do not be excessive. Excess means going beyond what is necessary or reasonable, whether in quantity, waste, or ostentation. In daily life, this invites us to examine our habits: do we take more than we need? Do we waste food? Isrāf also applies to clothing, like overly expensive or inappropriate outfits. Allah does not love the wasteful, so let us seek moderation.
Today, before eating, take a reasonable portion and decide not to waste anything.
