The Grateful Land

This verse compares good and bad land to teach us gratitude.

وَٱلۡبَلَدُ ٱلطَّيِّبُ يَخۡرُجُ نَبَاتُهُۥ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَٱلَّذِي خَبُثَ لَا يَخۡرُجُ إِلَّا نَكِدٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوۡمٖ يَشۡكُرُونَ

And the good land - its vegetation emerges by permission of its Lord; but that which is bad - nothing emerges except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are grateful.

Quran, Al-A'raf 7:58

The verse contrasts two lands: the good one produces abundant vegetation by Allah's permission, while the bad one yields little and with difficulty. This image shows that our receptiveness to Allah's signs depends on our hearts.

Being grateful means recognizing Allah's blessings and benefiting from them. The verse says that Allah diversifies His signs for those who are grateful. Today, we can cultivate this gratitude by observing nature and thanking Allah for His gifts.

Today, take a moment to observe an element of nature (a plant, the sky) and say inwardly: 'Alhamdulillah' (praise be to Allah) for this blessing.
