صَبْر
In times of trial, believers turn to Allah to obtain patience.
رَبَّنَآ أَفۡرِغۡ عَلَيۡنَا صَبۡرٗا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِينَ
"Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]."
Quran, Al-A'raf 7:126
This verse reports the prayer of believers persecuted by Pharaoh. They do not ask for the trial to end, but for the strength to remain firm in faith. They combine patience with total submission to Allah, until the last moment of their lives. In our daily lives, we may face difficulties: illness, injustice, or simple annoyances. Instead of complaining, we can call upon Allah with the same words, asking Him to grant us patience and steadfastness in our faith.
Today, when you face a difficulty, repeat this supplication: "Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran" and ask Allah to keep you firm in faith.
