مَثَل
This verse invites us to contemplate the transient nature of earthly life.
إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ
The life of this world is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky.
Quran, Yunus 10:24
The verse compares this worldly life to rain that makes plants grow. They beautify the earth, but an order from Allah reaps them suddenly, as if they had never existed. Thus, the goods and pleasures of this world are temporary. This image helps us not to become overly attached to material things. We can enjoy them with gratitude, while keeping in mind that our true home is with Allah.
Today, take a moment to observe a plant or a landscape and reflect on its ephemeral nature, then thank Allah for His blessings.
