مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ
Faced with temptation, Joseph chooses to seek refuge with Allah.
قَالَ مَعَاذَ ٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّهُۥ رَبِّيٓ أَحۡسَنَ مَثۡوَايَۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفۡلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah. Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed."
Quran, Yusuf 12:23
In this verse, Joseph is solicited by his master's wife. He responds with a protective phrase: "[I seek] the refuge of Allah." He then recalls that his master has treated him well, and that wrongdoers will not succeed. This response shows how he combines awareness of Allah with gratitude and justice. When we are tempted to do wrong, we can turn to Allah. Saying "I seek refuge with Allah" in our hearts helps us step back. It reminds us that we are not alone in facing difficulty.
Today, if you feel tempted by something against your values, say inwardly "I seek refuge with Allah" and remove yourself from the situation.
