مِيثَاق
Jacob asks for a solemn promise before entrusting his son.
حَتَّىٰ تُؤۡتُونِ مَوۡثِقٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لَتَأۡتُنَّنِي بِهِۦٓ
"until you give me a promise by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me"
Quran, Yusuf 12:66
In this verse, Jacob does not give in to his sons' request without conditions. He requires from them a formal commitment in the name of Allah, a solemn promise to bring their brother back. Only after this commitment does he agree to send him with them. Jacob thus takes responsibility for protecting his child and setting clear conditions. In our lives, we can learn to make firm commitments and honor them. Whether towards our family, friends, or ourselves, a sincere promise strengthens trust and responsibility.
Today, choose a simple commitment (like calling a relative or finishing a task) and honor it, mindful of the word given.
