مَوْثِق
This verse reminds us of the importance of keeping promises, even in difficult times.
أَلَمۡ تَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ أَبَاكُمۡ قَدۡ أَخَذَ عَلَيۡكُم مَّوۡثِقٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ
Do you not know that your father has taken upon you an oath by Allah?
Quran, Yusuf 12:80
In this verse, the eldest brother of Jacob's sons reminds his brothers of the solemn commitment they made before their father, in the name of Allah. This commitment, called mawthiq, is a sacred bond that carries responsibility. He also reminds them that they already failed in their duty towards Joseph, showing that trust is built through faithfulness. Today, we too may face promises that are hard to keep. This verse encourages us to take our commitments seriously, to honor them even when it is demanding, and to be patient while waiting for the outcome that Allah decides.
Today, think of a promise you made but haven't kept. Take one small concrete step to fulfill it, even if it's just a message or a call.
