صَبْر جَمِيل
Jacob, facing painful news, chooses a patience filled with hope.
فَصَبۡرٞ جَمِيلٌۖ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَأۡتِيَنِي بِهِمۡ جَمِيعًاۚ
"...So patience is most fitting. Perhaps Allah will bring them to me all together."
Quran, Yusuf 12:83
In this verse, Jacob responds to his sons who bring him a story that is hard to believe. He does not let himself be carried away by anger or despair. He chooses "beautiful patience," that is, patience without bitterness, and he expresses his hope that Allah will return all his sons to him. He reminds that Allah is All-Knowing and Wise. This attitude teaches us that patience is not a passive waiting. It is accompanied by an active trust in Allah. In our lives, when facing difficulties, we can cultivate this same hope, keeping in mind that Allah's wisdom surpasses our understanding.
Today, when facing a difficulty, say inwardly: "I choose beautiful patience and I hope in Allah."
