الصَّدَقَة
In distress, Joseph's brothers ask for a favor and charity.
وَتَصَدَّقۡ عَلَيۡنَآۖ
and be charitable to us
Quran, Yusuf 12:88
In this verse, Joseph's brothers, afflicted by famine, ask al-'Azize to give them full measure and to be charitable to them. They acknowledge their hardship and appeal to his generosity. The verse associates asking for help with the practice of sadaqa, without implying causation. This scene invites us to remain open to others, even in our own difficulties. Asking for help is not weakness, and giving, even a little, is appreciated by Allah. Generosity can take the form of material support or sincere attention.
Today, perform a small act of generosity: share a meal, give a coin, or offer your help to someone in need.
