غَفُور رَّحِيم
Abraham acknowledges that many have gone astray, but he entrusts himself to Allah's mercy.
فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ
And whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.
Quran, Ibrahim 14:36
In his prayer, Abraham mentions those who followed him and those who disobeyed him. For the latter, he does not ask for their punishment, but he reminds that Allah is Forgiving and Most Merciful. These two divine names are associated here to show that Allah's forgiveness is immense and accompanied by kindness. We too have shortcomings towards Allah and towards others. This verse invites us not to despair, for Allah is the One who forgives and shows mercy. Reflecting on these attributes can soothe our hearts and encourage us to turn back to Him with humility.
Today, take a moment to reflect on Allah's names 'the Forgiving' and 'the Most Merciful', and make a sincere intention in your heart to turn back to Him.
