عَدْل
This verse compares two men to teach us the value of justice.
وَمَن يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ
Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
Quran, An-Nahl 16:76
Allah gives a parable: a mute man, incapable and a burden, brings no good. The other man commands justice and follows a straight path. They are not equal. The verse combines commanding justice with steadfastness on the right path. In our lives, we can be like the first man if we remain passive. But we can choose to be like the second: act with fairness and stay on the straight path. Every day, we have opportunities to uphold justice, even in speech.
Today, defend someone who is treated unjustly, or support a just cause, even with a simple word.
