عَدْل
This verse summarizes the essence of Quranic morality.
۞إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنِ وَإِيتَآيِٕ ذِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَيَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَٱلۡبَغۡيِۚ يَعِظُكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ
Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
Quran, An-Nahl 16:90
This verse brings together three commands: justice, good conduct, and giving to relatives. It also associates three prohibitions: immorality, bad conduct, and oppression. Allah admonishes us to remember these principles. In our daily lives, we can apply justice in our words and decisions, even towards those we like less. Good conduct invites us to go beyond the minimum, and giving to relatives strengthens family ties.
Today, make a just decision, even a small one, and perform an act of kindness towards a relative.
