صِدْق
This verse warns us against declaring things lawful or unlawful without proof.
وَلَا تَقُولُواْ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلۡسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلۡكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَٰلٞ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٞ لِّتَفۡتَرُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَۚ
And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is lawful and this is unlawful," to invent falsehood about Allah.
Quran, An-Nahl 16:116
The verse forbids labeling things as lawful or unlawful according to our own desires. That would be attributing to Allah laws He has not established. Sincerity (sidq) requires speaking about religion only with truth and evidence. In our daily lives, we may be tempted to justify our choices with religious words without foundation. This verse invites us to be cautious and honest: not to assert what we do not know.
Today, before saying something is lawful or unlawful, check if you have proof. If you don't, say: "I don't know."
