Your Own Witness

On the Day of Judgment, each person will read their own book and be sufficient as a witness against themselves.

كَفَىٰ بِنَفۡسِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ عَلَيۡكَ حَسِيبٗا

“Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant.”

Quran, Al-Isra 17:14

This verse addresses every human being. It says: “Read your record.” This record contains all of one's actions. Then Allah clarifies that the person is sufficient as a witness against themselves. They know their actions better than anyone. They cannot lie to themselves.

This truth invites us to be sincere. We know what we do, even if no one else sees it. Today, we can choose actions that will make us proud when we read our book.
