إِحْسَان
This verse teaches us how to honor our parents, especially as they grow older.
وَبِٱلۡوَٰلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَٰنًاۚ إِمَّا يَبۡلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلۡكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوۡ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفّٖ وَلَا تَنۡهَرۡهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوۡلٗا كَرِيمٗا
And to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
Quran, Al-Isra 17:23
Allah commands us to worship Him alone and to be good to our parents. This verse emphasizes their old age: it forbids even saying "uff" and repelling them. Instead, it asks for respectful and noble words. When our parents age, they may become slow or demanding. This verse invites us to be patient and gentle. Today, we can choose kind words, even in difficult moments.
Today, speak to your parents (or one of them) with a respectful and gentle word, even if you are busy or tired.
