إِيتَاءُ ذِي الْقُرْبَى
This verse invites us to give to those in need while avoiding wastefulness.
وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ وَٱبۡنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرۡ تَبۡذِيرًا
And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully.
Quran, Al-Isra 17:26
This verse brings together three people to whom we should give: the relative, the poor, and the traveler. Each has a right upon us. Giving means recognizing that right and sharing what we have. At the same time, the verse warns us against wastefulness. Giving does not mean spending without limit. Generosity is done with wisdom and moderation.
Today, give a small amount or a meal to a relative in need, while avoiding excess.
