مَثَلُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا
This verse invites us to reflect on the transient nature of earthly life.
وَٱضۡرِبۡ لَهُم مَّثَلَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَٱخۡتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَأَصۡبَحَ هَشِيمٗا تَذۡرُوهُ ٱلرِّيَٰحُۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ مُّقۡتَدِرًا
Present to them the example of the life of this world: it is like rain which We send down from the sky, the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, then it becomes dry remnants scattered by the winds. And Allah is over all things, Perfect in Ability.
Quran, Al-Kahf 18:45
Allah compares the life of this world to rain that brings forth lush vegetation, but then it dries up and is scattered. This image shows that the pleasures and possessions of this world are temporary and perishable. Faced with this reality, we are invited not to attach excessively to material things. Instead, we can focus on what remains: good deeds and seeking Allah's pleasure.
Today, take a moment to reflect on a material possession you hold dear and ask yourself how you can use it for something lasting, like helping someone or doing a good deed.
