Guided to good speech

This verse describes a grace granted to the believers: being guided to good speech and to the path of the Praiseworthy.

وَهُدُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱلطَّيِّبِ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَهُدُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِ

And they had been guided to good speech, and they were guided to the path of the Praiseworthy.

Quran, Al-Hajj 22:24

In the previous verse, Allah promises the believers gardens, adornments, and silk. This verse clarifies that they were also guided to good speech and to the path of the Praiseworthy. Good speech and the right path are thus blessings from Allah.

Each day, we can choose our words. Speaking good, useful, and respectful words brings us closer to that path. It does not require great deeds, but sincere attention to what we say.

Today, before speaking, ask yourself: is this speech good? If yes, say it; if not, choose a better word or remain silent.
