ظَنَّ الْخَيْرَ
This verse teaches us the right reaction when facing an accusation without proof.
ظَنَّ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ خَيۡرٗا وَقَالُواْ هَٰذَآ إِفۡكٞ مُّبِينٞ
Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of one another and say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?
Quran, An-Nur 24:12
In this verse, Allah addresses the believers: when negative words circulate, they should hold a favorable opinion and call it an obvious lie. The previous verse reminds that the slander comes from a group, and the next one requires four witnesses for such an accusation. Thus, without proof, trust should prevail. In daily life, we often hear remarks about others. Instead of accepting them, we can choose to think well and not spread what is unverified.
Today, if you hear something negative about someone, keep a favorable opinion and say, "It might be false."
