لَا نَتَكَلَّمُ
This verse teaches us how to react when we hear a rumor or slander.
مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَٰذَا
It is not for us to speak of this.
Quran, An-Nur 24:16
In this verse, Allah teaches us the right attitude when we hear a serious accusation: to say that we should not speak of it. The previous verse shows that spreading words without knowledge is a tremendous sin. The next verse urges us never to return to such conduct. Today, rumors spread quickly. Before repeating information, we can pause and ask ourselves if we have proof. If not, the best response is to refuse to speak about it.
Today, if you hear unverified news, say: "It is not for us to speak of this" and do not pass it on.
