This verse invites us to contemplate the alternation of night and day as a mercy from Allah.
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.
Quran, Al-Qasas 28:73
Allah reminds us that night and day are gifts from His mercy. The night allows rest, the day allows seeking His bounty, i.e., means of sustenance. These two rhythms are complementary and necessary for life. Acknowledging these blessings means using them as Allah intends: resting at night and acting during the day. It also means being grateful to Him, in thought and in action.
Today, take a moment to thank Allah for the past night and for the coming day, then perform a useful action of the day with that intention.
