ٱقْتِصَاد فِي الْمَشْي
This verse teaches us two simple attitudes for a balanced life.
وَٱقۡصِدۡ فِي مَشۡيِكَ وَٱغۡضُضۡ مِن صَوۡتِكَۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلۡأَصۡوَٰتِ لَصَوۡتُ ٱلۡحَمِيرِ
Be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys.
Quran, Luqman 31:19
In this advice, Allah asks us to walk with moderation and to lower our voice. He compares a loud, unpleasant voice to that of donkeys, to show how disliked it is. This verse follows another that forbids arrogance and excessive pride. In daily life, this invites us to avoid drawing attention through our demeanor or our shouts. A steady gait and a gentle voice reflect inner calm and respect for others.
Today, when you walk, adopt a steady and moderate pace, and speak softly in your conversations.
