The believer and the sinner are not equal

This verse poses an essential question about the value of deeds.

أَفَمَن كَانَ مُؤۡمِنٗا كَمَن كَانَ فَاسِقٗاۚ لَّا يَسۡتَوُۥنَ

Then is one who was a believer like one who was defiantly disobedient? They are not equal.

The verse contrasts two attitudes: faith and disobedience. It affirms that they are not equal. The previous verse mentions the hidden reward for believers, and the next specifies that they will have the Gardens of Refuge. Thus, the Quran associates faith with good deeds and recompense.
