Turning Away from Reminders

This verse questions our attitude towards divine reminders.

وَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ ثُمَّ أَعۡرَضَ عَنۡهَآ

And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord; then he turns away from them?

Verse 22 of Surah As-Sajda poses a rhetorical question: no one is more unjust than the one who is reminded of Allah's verses and then turns away. The key word is 'aʿraḍa', meaning to turn away or to ignore. This verse associates this behavior with injustice, without specifying towards whom.

In our daily lives, we may encounter reminders: a verse heard, a piece of advice, a reading. Sometimes we ignore or quickly dismiss them. This verse invites us to reflect on our reaction to these reminders.
